Summary of the Test 👇

Shure Motiv MV5 Microphone Overview

At first glance, the Shure Motiv MV5 reminds me of the look of the condenser microphone . In fact, Shure's professional microphone has a body smaller than a tennis ball.

And yet, the sound quality it offers far exceeds that of some models of dynamic microphones and condenser mics.

So, buying a Motiv MV5 microphone is a bit like buying a high-performance voice recorder and amplifier .

It is suitable for podcast fans

This little marvel equipped with a stereo moving coil, sound wave transformer provides exemplary voice recording.

Moreover, your static USB microphone works without the need for an external sound card or even less an external power supply.

Therefore, you don't need a phantom source mixer to be able to use an MV5 mic .

Digital type, it converts bandwidth vibrations into an electrical signal via USB connection.

Basically, you just need to plug in its USB cable and connector to start your voice recording in the studio.

In addition, with its cardioid polarization , it is suitable for podcast enthusiasts with little percussion and interference.

Increased versatility to any sound source

Versatile, your external small diaphragm microphone reproduces human voices as well as the sound of acoustic instruments.

It's this versatility to capture, condense, mix and capture sounds that I like about this USB microphone from Shure.

And to top it all off, the Motiv MV5 is compatible with most studio recording devices .

Thus, it can easily connect at high frequencies or low frequencies to your iPad, iPhone, Windows, Android devices.

A priori, all you need to do is connect your USB connector to the audio interface of the device for pairing to take place automatically.

It's simple and ultra-practical for perfecting my recording technique in the studio or live without connecting phantom power .

How to make the Shure Motiv MV5 micro-USB

Fueling dynamics and amplifying dynamics is what the Shure Motiv MV5 does best.

In fact, the studio microphone it displays limits the proximity effect thanks to a small and optimized dynamic description.

In practice, your directional microphone captures acoustic and electrostatic pressure using an integrated cardio switch and converter.

Small, it is easy to transport and offers good audio quality in a diagram close to the omnidirectional curve.

Your room microphone owes these characteristics to its portable and digital manufacturing . Once mounted on a tripod or microphone stand, the Motiv MV5 does not exceed 5.5 inches.

Moreover, you do not have to provide support, the latter is already included in the pack with a sound attenuator .

Offered at a good quality/price ratio, the MV5 stereo microphone features a high-end mixed construction.

And yet, studio equipment is accessible to all budgets, including home studio .

Lightweight, it sits on an aluminum support with metallic and shiny finishes .

The gooseneck frequencies it captures limit the pressure levels listened to through my headphones.

In addition, the presence of a built-in speaker and a sound wave converter means that it easily reproduces the sounds of an acoustic guitar.

Zoom on the body of the Shure Motiv MV5

A priori, I am entitled to an entirely plastic construction . It also features a red windshield below its shockproof solid capsule grille.

It is the best type of studio microphone which reduces the percussion of the magnetic field as well as the handling noises coming from different frequencies.

As a result, you get a consistently stable response curve with this truly studio-usable recording equipment

Your Shure Motiv MV5 directional microphone has a screw hole for threaded mounting. The latter allows it to be easily moved depending on the sound sources.

To record vocals on the move , it is therefore more than recommended for its versatile vocal capture of treble and bass.

In addition, Shure offers two versions of the MV5: an all-black boom microphone In any case, these USB condenser microphones can serve well as studio recording equipment.

Helmet mounting and monitoring

The aluminum stand of the Shure Motiv MV5 certainly allows me to capture different recordings in the studio . However, I find it a little too light. I actually knocked it over several times without paying attention.

So if you tend to move around a lot while recording in the studio, you'll need some extra support to anchor it properly.

And on this, its threaded support adapts to the dimensions of most tripods on the market. However, the dynamic instrument can easily pick up sounds from fixed instruments conveniently.

In front of a microphone, I often listen to my voice through headphones . Luckily the MV5 has a 3.5mm headphone mic input .

I can therefore easily listen to the sound quality it provides once connected to my preamp/amp. However, I regret that this lavalier microphone lacks a pop filter and a wind filter.

Also, your Shure MV5 wireless microphone is equipped with a monitor volume adjustment . Therefore, you are free to raise/lower the volume depending on the sensitivity of the microphone to an acoustic source.

But regardless of the nature of the sounds, the frequency response remains stable in cardioid directivity .

The coil-and-magnet output level it offers indeed seems intact, no matter the amplification and recording of sound pressures .

A built-in silent switch

It is very difficult to find a radio microphone with a built-in mute switch on the market. Indeed, during my last condenser microphone and dynamic microphone tests, I realized this.

So, it is not always easy to come across an omnidirectional or cardio microphone that has it.

But while testing the Shure Motiv MV5, I'm surprised that it has one, even though it's basically a small-diaphragm handheld microphone.

In the recording studio , this type of microphone sounds relatively close to the Blue Yeti and condenser microphones .

The sound engineer behind its manufacture is surely proud of his work. This is nothing less than a winning combo of a , low-noise wireless lavalier mic

A priori, just like the Rode NT USB, the Shure Motiv MV5 limits static and ribbon background noise. The frequency response it projects using an electrical current source remains at a relatively high level.

Additionally, its built-in switch is on the back of the mic level, right next to the DSP button pins. It is therefore easy to access and practical to use.

USB microphones offer only one type of voice recording.

Shure Motiv MV5: 3 recording modes to choose from

Most of the time, USB microphones like Apogee Mic Plus, or Antelope Audio Edge Go offer only one type of voice recording.

This is why I have always prioritized dynamic and condenser microphone models in my tests.

And yet, the Shure Motiv MV5 proved me wrong. I am now convinced that a USB mic is just as capable of delivering quality sounds as a condenser mic.

A priori, the MV5 singing microphone offers three recording modes :

  • vocal
  • acoustic instrument
  • flat

AT THE LOWEST PRICE 👇

Voice mode is suitable for speaking and singing. The acoustic mode allows you to easily record the sounds of guitars and acoustic instruments in DPA .

Finally, using the microphone in flat mode allows you to obtain a neutral sound, without specific processing.

Besides, you can easily switch between these options using its DSP button located on the back of the diaphragm.

So, no matter the type of sounds or the level of recording to be made, the Shure Motiv MV5 meets all needs.

Singers, podcast enthusiasts or even a group of voice-over artists , it projects good directional and bidirectional sound mixing.
